Dylan Forever Young Live – David Letterman Show on the 18th of November, 1993

Wow Letterman has aged alot since this video – so has Bob. Almost 15 years ago! Bob went on this show to promote World Gone Wrong which was released on Oct 26, 1993.

This is one of my favorite Bob Dylan videos I’ve found. Bob knows he is being recorded for TV and he is living up to his standards. Wearing clothes a la Rolling Thunder Revue almost and the band is there to provide Bob with an amazing solemn groove with the usual amazing steel guitar from Bucky Baxter.

Bob plays a wonderful solo on the guitar around the 3:00 mark which makes the hairs on the back on my neck stand up!

This was a smoking band and there’s no doubt about it at all. I love the way sings this and I never thought gravel could be so smooth and beautiful.

Forever Young was first released on ‘Planet Waves’ in 1974. There are actually two different versions of the song on the record.

Renaldo, Clara and Woman in White Love Triangle

A love triangle between Renaldo/Bob Dylan, Clara/Sara Dylan and Woman in White/Joan Baez. Renaldo is confronted by the two ladies over his cheating behaviour (lol perfect role for Bob). The ladies unite against him. Notice how Joan Baez no longer speaks with the fake Gypsie accent, as if she is not really playing a character but is her real self. This blurring of characters makes the whole movie on the one hand interesting but on the other difficult to understand and follow. What do you think?

Thank you again to Kafka05 for all that work! – http://au.youtube.com/user/Kafka05

It would be insane not to finish this post off with yet another clip from ‘Renaldo and Clara’. This is Bob performing ‘Sara’. The alternate lyrics are amazing, such as “I was too young to know that you were doing it right. And you’re doing it with strength that belonged to the gods” Wow.

Bob Dylan Hurricane – Live at John Hammond Tribute on the 10th of September 1975

The occasion was a tribute to John Hammond who retired from Columbia Records the same year. As you may know, John Hammond was the man who signed Bob Dylan to Columbia in 1962.

This is a very special performance from Dylan and 3 band members Scarlet Rivera on violin, Rob Stoner on bass and Howie Wyeth on drums. They toured with Dylan in 1975 as part of the Rolling Thunder Revue. The tour began the following month after this performance. Dylan’s voice is awesome in this period bearing some gruff and tenderness. At this stage Bob is starting to really wave his voice around and if you listen to the album ‘Street Legal’ recorded in 1978 you’ll hear a transformation in his singing that began in the mid 70s. Bob Dylan just keeps on progressing if you ask me

The band is highly dynamic with Howie Wyeth keeping a tight beat and Scarlet Rivera playing gypsy style violin. Rob Stoner is a fantastic bass player who seems to be able to do anything. Rob and Howie were an established rhythm section before they played with Dylan.

I am posting two versions of this video. This one has better sound quality but the synchronization is not as good between the audio and video.

And here is the other one which is still good!
